Jeff and Christine McKay’s children had left the nest. His 30 years as a strength trainer and massage therapist had been good to him, but it was time to try something new. And like for many people on the East End, the food and wine business is an extremely beckoning second career. So last month they opened Vines & Hops, a bar and café on East Main Street in Riverhead. Expect local wines like Duck Walk Sauvignon Blanc, McCall Merlot, Pindar’s Port and Anthony Nappa’s Anomaly. Also many local beers on tap, including those from Long Ireland, Greenport Harbor and Blue Point. There is a light food menu and specialities from the North Fork Chocolate Company.
Closed Mondays. Open Tuesday through Thursday at 4 p.m. Open Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at noon. 127 East Main Street, 631.369.3100.
